A Message from Principal Rexha

Greetings Students, Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

The last day of school…we made it! I know that this last part of the year was challenging for students and you as parents & guardians as you navigated the pandemic as it related to careers, childcare, staying healthy, and the overall safety of your family. I could not be more proud of our faculty, community, and our parents for helping our students finish out the year strong. This experience will no doubt help teach our students the “grit” that it takes to succeed in tough times such as these with COVID19. So congratulations to YOU and our STUDENTS for making it until the end of the year!

For our 12th graders, we will miss everyone as they start their new journey and embark off into college and/or career success. For us parents, I know that it seems like it was just yesterday that we were taking pictures of their 1st day of kindergarten with them sitting at their new desk with their name tag on it. Please take some time to talk with your children and congratulate them on making it this far. Be sure to dig up those old kindergarten pictures and reminisce on their journey so far too. We would have loved to give our 12th graders the “send-off” they deserve with Awards nights, The Senior trip, and Prom. I’m very proud to share that Lavelle High School held the very first “Ride-a-long” parade for our Class of 2020!

This was one among other tributes honoring our seniors and I believe we did fulfill some of our graduates’ dreams & wishes. Even though it was not a traditional ceremony, our seniors felt honored & loved as we gave the families and the community an opportunity to celebrate our Class of 2020. At this time, I’m very excited to announce “Celebrate ICS”– a web site that has been created to be used as a virtual tribute for the Class of 2020. Please take this time to visit www.celebrateics.com.

Students: as you move forward, be all in. Always be present, always treat others around you with dignity and respect, and let the goodness in your soul shine each and every day. When you fully invest in the moment, you allow yourself to listen deeply, to notice the finer details, and to exchange ideas creatively and authentically.

Over the summer vacation, I will be working with colleagues to put into place a smooth reopening and setting the priorities to build upon the successes of the school so that we can improve still further. We should always seek to do better; to challenge ourselves and our students to set the highest standards and achieve our ambitious goals. As we continue the planning, we will keep you updated.

Thank you for your continued support and positivity as we strive to do what is best for ALL of our students during these challenging times. I would like to wish you all to enjoy these summer months and stay safe. I look forward to welcoming you all back, refreshed, for what will be an exciting, new academic year.

Serving you,

Dori Rexha
