On May 3rd, 43 college-bound Lavelle Prep Seniors took their first steps towards their college careers.

Lavelle Prep’s College Signing Day was filled with high hopes and roaring cheers as the senior class announced their final college decisions. They were greeted with an auditorium filled with their biggest supporters and role models, including fellow students from 10th and 11th grade.

Reach Higher and Better Make Roomtwo initiatives launched by Michelle Obama, seeks to inspire students to take charge of their future by completing their education past high school, whether at a professional training program, a community college, a university or the military. To reinforce the idea that academic achievement in the classroom should be celebrated just as much as athletic excellence, College Signing Day at Lavelle builds on and extends this level of excitement for ALL students to see college as an option in their future since your education is the most valuable asset you can have.

The seniors beamed with pride as they announced their college decisions to their peers and teachers.

This fall, Lavelle Prep seniors will become college freshmen at such esteemed universities including, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Penn State, CUNY – City College, CUNY- CSI, CUNY – Hunter, Rowan University and more,.

“Our seniors looked forward to this event all year!” shared Kelly McNamara, ICS college advisor.

“We are overjoyed by all of these students’ achievements. A lot of work has brought these students to this moment and we have watched them grow since the 6th grade into the bright young adults they are today. We are happy to celebrate College Signing Day as a community with the day being filled with love, laughter, and pride as well as school-wide support for the students’ education and future.”

At Lavelle Prep, we embed college and career exploration and preparedness, the college application process, and financial aid information into our Wellness classes. Students are given class time to work on these milestones and ask questions so that every student enters the college application process with confidence and ease. Supportive staff is always available to help students navigate and succeed along their paths to college and beyond.

We are SO proud of the Class of 2019!
