Lavelle Prep Students Attend Advocacy Day

On Tuesday February 6th, Lavelle Prep High School students attended NYS Charter School Advocacy Day in Albany. 

High School students Alexandria Burgos, Victoria Cruz-Green, Trianna Latif, Trinity Latif, Vivian Martinez, Kyrah McFarlane, Brandon Morales, Malick Ndir, Steven Rios, Lamine Sangare, Karina Hernandez, Aeva Soler, and Alexandra Virgintino, parent Ms. Debbie Cruz- Greene, 6th grade student Aidan Cruz-Greene, alumnus Rosa Rodriguez and Mr. Brendan Ingram attended the event. 

Throughout the course of the day, the group had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with both Thomas Blancero, Director of Communications for  Michael J. Cusick, Member of Assembly 63rd District, and John Turoski, Chief of Staff for Senator Andrew J. Lanza, 24th Senate District.

The group of Lavelle Prep representatives advocated for issues including:
  • An increase in Per Pupil Funding as advocated by Gov. Cuomo’s 2018 Education Budget proposals
  • Removal of the cap on Charter Schools
  • Policies for Special Education students: ex.) allow charters to collaborate with other charters to provide SPED programs for their students just the way district schools can
  • Rental Assistance
