At Integration Charter Schools (ICS), we believe that diversity is our strength. In order to fulfill this vision, Lavelle Prep has been partnering with the Teachers of Critical Language Program (TCLP) to bring to life a unique Arabic language program. TCLP is a U.S. Department of State initiative which brings teachers from China, Egypt, and Morocco to teach in an American classroom for one school year.
This year, Lavelle Prep is honored to host Ibrahim Ibrahim from the nation of Egypt. Ibrahim, who has been an English teacher in Egypt for over 20 years, was honored when he was chosen to be teaching ambassador at Lavelle Prep charter school.
“This program has helped me to learn a lot about myself, my country and the world,” shared Ibrahim, “This is a good experience for anyone to open your eyes to the other world. See how they communicate, how they think, how they work.”
Ibrahim has dedicated himself to not only teach the Arabic language but the Arabic culture as well. Throughout the school year, Ibrahim invited various Arabic speakers within ICS family to talk to the students about their country, culture, and language. This year under Ibrahim’s tutelage, three students passed the Arabic regents with flying colors. Ibrahim believes that by teaching Arabic culture, students will develop a stronger grasp of the language itself.
“It widens their scope of thinking,” he shares, “It helps them understand the true picture of the world.”
This is Lavelle Prep’s third year partnering with TCLB and Ibrahim is just the latest in a series of brilliant teachers from the program that have helped strengthened Lavelle Pep Arabic classes.
“I have learned a lot since I started at Lavelle. The school has given me the best support. Mr. Fredericks and Ms. Outarid have been so helpful and supportive.”
