Principal’s Message (Middle & High)

September 2021

Dear Lavelle Middle School Families,

The start of an exciting new school year is upon us. It brings me great joy to welcome back our returning families and students. To all of our newly enrolled families, welcome to Lavelle Prep Middle School. On behalf of myself and the amazing staff at Lavelle Prep, we would like to thank you for choosing our school and entrusting your children to us. We are so happy to have you joining our family and look forward to the work we will do together throughout the 2021-2022 school year.

We know a strong partnership this year, more than ever, will make a great difference in your child’s academic success. Our school is committed to providing high quality education this year, while also keeping the health and safety for all at the forefront. We pride ourselves in the communication and relationships we build with our families and students, and this year will be no different. We promise to update our plans as needed to ensure all of our students receive the best education, the education they deserve and need, despite the challenges presented.

I am beyond proud of our students, families, and teachers for making our remote learning experience a success and for creating a viable model should we ever need to shift back to online learning again in the future. That being said, I am really excited about bringing our students back into the building this year.  I can’t wait to hear the buzz of learning emanating from our classrooms

September 2021

Dear Lavelle Students, Staff and Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! Heading back to school is always an exciting time, and even more so now that the 2021-2022 school year is shaping up to look different than previous years.

The pandemic has created a sense of urgency to make necessary changes to education. This is an opportunity for us to look at the positive outcomes from a pandemic year and see what we can do to move past the pandemic and into the next school year. I know that many of you join me in excitement to return to school in person this year! We faced many challenges last school year, but we continued to achieve and do great things while learning in a variety of formats. We truly embraced the fact that learning happens everywhere!

I am excited about the opportunities that Lavelle’s excellent teaching staff and its amazing students will have to engage in meaningful learning activities to strengthen the student experience. The challenges and opportunities will present students with great learning experiences to foster academic and social growth for student success. Our student expectations of being safe, being respectful, and being ready to learn will help us to continue to provide a learning environment where all students can be successful. Students will continue to learn that being their best and doing their best is always important, no matter how difficult the challenge. We will focus on personalized learning, ensuring all students are getting what they need, whether remediation for unfinished learning or acceleration for those who need it. We are committed to continuing this focus and supporting our families during the school day and beyond.

We are so fortunate to have a strong team of teachers and staff members who have high expectations for student success while balancing that with the needs of all students. We believe in a strong academic focus that will be balanced with the need for students to play, collaborate, problem solve and create. Family members are a key to our success as a school and will be an even bigger key to success this year. We can’t do it without you! Together we can help all students to learn and grow as individuals and strong members of our community

While the new school year may continue to bring challenges, I know that we will be even stronger. We will continue to support each other, we will continue to celebrate each other, and take pride in the accomplishments of all members of our Lavelle High School Family.

We have an exciting year ahead of us. I eagerly look forward to greeting students again. It remains an honor and privilege to serve as your principal. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all students!

Warm regards,

Dori Rexha

HS Principal

Important Information For the First Day of On-Site Learning

As a charter school, Lavelle Prep believes strongly in the power of school choice. We are so grateful you have chosen us and entrusted us with your child’s education, and we are fully committed to delivering a rigorous curriculum while maintaining the safest school settings possible.

There has been a slight change in our arrival protocols from what was originally explained in family Zoom town halls and in our reopening plan.

For students who are enrolled in our hybrid model, for the first day of on-site learning and each day forward, all Lavelle Prep high school students are to be dropped off directly at the CC1 main entrance. From there, they will have their temperatures taken, submit their surveys, and will be directed by our security staff to enter based on the volume of students arriving at the same time.

Our additional efforts include:

Individual student temperature checks will take place upon arrival.

Each student and staff member will complete a Health Screening Questionnaire prior to entering the building.

Each classroom will have its own sanitizing station.

Each classroom will have its own HEPA filter air purifier in addition to a recently upgraded HVAC system.

Social distancing markers will be placed throughout the building.

Each classroom will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized daily, with a deep cleaning happening each Wednesday when no students are present.

No student or staff member will be allowed in the building without a mask. We can provide one to any student in need.

If a child refuses to wear a mask after being counseled and addressed, a parent/guardian will be called and they must be picked up in a timely manner.

Please email me should you have any questions or concerns.

We are wishing you a healthy and successful 2021-2022 school year and stand beside you as we navigate these uncharted waters together.
