Principal’s Message (Middle & High)

September, 2020

Dear Lavelle Middle School Families,

The start of an exciting new school year is upon us. It brings me great joy to welcome back our returning families and students. To all of our newly enrolled families, welcome to Lavelle Prep Middle School. On behalf of myself and the amazing staff at Lavelle Prep, we would like to thank you for choosing our school and entrusting your children to us.We are so happy to have you joining our family and look forward to the work we will do together throughout the 2020-2021 school year.

We know a strong partnership this year, more than ever, will make a great difference in your child’s academic success. Our school is committed to providing high quality education this year, while also keeping the health and safety for all at the forefront. We pride ourselves in the communication and relationships we build with our families and students, and this year will be no different. We promise to update our plans as needed to ensure all of our students receive the best education, the education they deserve and need, despite the challenges presented.

As many of you know, I will not be physically present due to my upcoming child care leave but my heart and thoughts will be with our students and staff as they work, learn, and succeed together. Ms. Megean Moeller will be the Interim Acting Principal in my absence. She and I have been working closely over the past few months to ensure that our staff is well prepared and our students get the best educational experience. I am confident that this school year will be another memorable one filled with support,  successes and growth.

Dear Lavelle Students, Staff and Parents/Guardians,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2020/2021 school year at Lavelle High School! I am very excited to serve all of you as your Principal. Last school year was an unprecedented one in the history of our educational system. In reaction to the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, Lavelle successfully moved to a Distance Learning model. This monumental task was accomplished due to the dedication and the great skills of our Staff, Students, and Parents.

Over the past several weeks, we have continued to define our school plans for a safe reopening this September. Our priorities for reopening remain centered on the critical concepts of protecting the health, safety, and well-being of our community while upholding our mission to educate the hearts and minds of our students. In order to ensure the safeguarding of health for all our Lavelle Prep community, it is up to each of us to engage in appropriate health and safety measures. We will monitor the latest research and best public health practices and adjust our plans when needed.

I am pleased to share that Lavelle High School staff is deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our students. We enter this year having achieved a 100% high school graduation rate last year and we look forward to continuing that excellence. We pride ourselves in giving our students the attention they need to achieve the success they deserve. We will continue to accomplish this by setting high academic expectations for all students, setting high standards for teacher performance, and engaging the community. It is our goal at Lavelle that all students are on track to be college and career ready.

We embrace the challenges of the future while we continue to cherish and celebrate the traditions of the past. Our remarkable staff involved parents and committed students come together to make Lavelle High School a wonderful, unique place.

We welcome your involvement and participation in our great school and look forward to working with you as we strive toward an academically successful 2020-21 school year. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all Lavelle students!

Warm regards,

Dori Rexha

HS Principal

Important Information For the First Day of On-Site Learning

As a charter school, Lavelle Prep believes strongly in the power of school choice. We are so grateful you have chosen us and entrusted us with your child’s education, and we are fully committed to delivering a rigorous curriculum while maintaining the safest school settings possible.

There has been a slight change in our arrival protocols from what was originally explained in family Zoom town halls and in our reopening plan.

For students who are enrolled in our hybrid model, for the first day of on-site learning and each day forward, all Lavelle Prep high school students are to be dropped off directly at the CC1 main entrance. From there, they will have their temperatures taken, submit their surveys, and will be directed by our security staff to enter based on the volume of students arriving at the same time.

Our additional efforts include:

Individual student temperature checks will take place upon arrival.

Each student and staff member will complete a Health Screening Questionnaire prior to entering the building.

Each classroom will have its own sanitizing station.

Each classroom will have its own HEPA filter air purifier in addition to a recently upgraded HVAC system.

Social distancing markers will be placed throughout the building.

Each classroom will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized daily, with a deep cleaning happening each Wednesday when no students are present.

No student or staff member will be allowed in the building without a mask. We can provide one to any student in need.

If a child refuses to wear a mask after being counseled and addressed, a parent/guardian will be called and they must be picked up in a timely manner.

Please email me should you have any questions or concerns.

We are wishing you a healthy and successful 2020-2021 school year and stand beside you as we navigate these uncharted waters together.
