Grades and Grading Policy

Lavelle Prep uses PowerSchool as our Student Information System and teacher gradebook. All families will receive a login and password. You will be able to view your child’s grades as they are entered.

Lavelle Prep uses a proprietary grading system. On the report card you will see four grades: Grade Level Proficiency (GLP), Habits of Work and Learning (IE).
Each category is explained below:

Grade Level Proficiency (GLP) is an indicator of how your child is progressing on grade level standards. A high grade is a sign of meeting grade level standards, a lower grade is an indicator of below grade level performance.

Habits of Work and Learning (HOWL) is an indicator of how well your child works in the academic environment. This area includes homework, classwork, group work, participation, notebook checks, etc. A higher grade is an indicator of excellent work ethic and citizenship, a lower grade is an indicator of struggling habits.

Intervention and Enrichment is an indicator of how well your child works on classwork that is above or below grade level, depending on their academic needs.

Final Grade is measured on an 0 – 100 scale and is composed of three items: GLP, HOWL & IE. Often students are not ready for grade level work, so our team tailors the instruction to meet students where they are. This does mean that a higher grade does not always show that a student is meeting promotional criteria. The GLP grade is a better indicator of that measurement.

We believe in the college promise, in order to achieve that goal, we understand students may take some time to master grade level standards. In order to move on to the next grade level, all students must show mastery with a 65% or greater in grade-level work.

Calendar

Our school calendar can be found HERE.

Communication

We utilize a communication program called ParentSquare. Parent email addresses and phone numbers are automatically transferred from our student information system from registration, so there is no need to download anything. However, if you would like, there is an app available for download. We use this program to private message parents about student progress, send whole school communications, emergency communications, our weekly newsletter, and much more!

Technology

Each student will be issued a chromebook for usage during the school day and at home. Students are wholly responsible for their computer which includes appropriate usage and damage.
