Lavelle Prep Reopening Plans – Updated March 6

*Elementary Reopening Plan*

Dear Families,

We hope this message finds you safe and healthy.

As stated in our last message, we explained we were planning for reopening for in-person instruction on, or after, March 8th.

Our plan now is to officially resume in-person instruction for grades K-5 on March 15th (Every Monday), and 6-8 on March 16th (Every Tuesday) hours of 8:00 am – 1:15pm . Yellow bus services will resume, and new metrocards will be provided to students.  Only students who were previously enrolled in in-person learning will be returning to the building at this time. For our remote learners, we will continue to move forward with e-learning in the same manner we have been throughout the winter.

A survey will be forthcoming next week to help guide us in the planning process as we move forward, addressing your comfortability with increasing in-person learning, as well as summer programming to combat learning loss. Information about potential possibilities to change your child’s status from remote to hybrid will be sent to families following the survey distribution.

Of course, should you wish your child to remain a virtual learner for the remainder of the academic year, you can absolutely opt for that at any time. Please contact your child’s school administrator directly if this is what you would like to do.

For elementary, please contact psilva@lavelleprep.org.

For middle school, please contact phewawasam@lavelleprep.org.

ALL of our previous safety precautions to combat the spread of COVID-19, including but not limited to masks, social distancing, classroom sanitization, and  hand sanitizing stations will continue to be maintained.

To remedy the learning loss that has undoubtedly occurred in the midst of COVID-19, we will be spending the spring and summer months heavily focused on learning recovery and on supporting our students’ social- emotional growth.

Our teams are hard at work revising, rewriting and assessing our curricula to ensure we address the significant gaps that students may be struggling with.

Sincerely,

Jenna Curran,

Principal, Elementary School

*High School Reopening Plan*

Dear Lavelle High School Families,

We hope this message finds you safe and healthy.

As stated in our last message, we explained we were planning for reopening for in-person instruction on, or after, March 8th.

At this time, Integration Charter Schools has made the decision to prioritize bringing our youngest learners in our elementary and middle grades back for in-person instruction first. Therefore, Lavelle Prep High School and 8th Grade Honors students will be remaining on remote learning until further notice.  We will be conducting a family survey in the coming weeks to begin working on a plan to bring Lavelle Prep High School and 8th Grade Honors students back for in-person instruction as soon as possible.

Our teams are hard at work assessing student achievement so that we ensure all students meet state standards by the end of June.  Teachers are working in teams to align, revise, and adapt our curricula to meet student needs.  Your scholar can help in this process by identifying their learning goals and, with their peers and teachers, assess where they are in relation to the standards.

Summer is right around the corner and we are hard at work planning robust opportunities for all students to prepare for the new school year and for students who are struggling to meet standards to take courses to recover credits.

In these trying times, please remember that we are all in this together and we are here for you!

Sincerely,

Dori Rexha

High School Principal
